Saturday, 10th December 2022 – 11.00 a.m.
Doors open at 10.00 a.m.

Our traditional Christmas Meeting/Party will be held on Saturday, 10th December 2022 with Kris Kindle, Christmas Demonstrations etc. And of course there will be mulled wine (non-alcoholic!), mince pies and other Christmas goodies.  We are looking for volunteers to demonstrate interesting and unusual Christmas items.  If you have a Christmas item you would like to demonstrate, please let one of the Committee members know.

For the Kris Kindle, the absolute maximum amount is €10.

Christmas Challenge – this year’s Christmas Challenge is to make a Christmas item without using either Red or Green fabric/materials. Prizes will be awarded! Bring along your items for display at the meeting!

 

Monday, 28th November 2022 – 7.30 p.m.
“Zoom” Demonstration

As an experiment and to facilitate more members, we will be having the monthly demonstrations on Mondays instead of Wednesdays.

The November Zoom demonstration will be held on Monday, 28th November 2022 at 7.30 p.m.  Mairead Hutchison will demonstrate how to make Lynn Naughton’s “Table Runner”. Lynn is the owner of the fabric shop Seams Sew Simple.

Saturday, 19th November 2022 – 11.00 a.m.
Doors open at 10.00 a.m.

The Speaker for the meeting is Eithne Carey, Chair of the Irish Guild of Embroiders.  The title of her talk is “Enriching Stitching”.  Eithne is a stitcher of mixed background including costume making, design and everything stitching.  We look forward to welcoming her to our meeting.

Charity Swap Table for our 2022 Charity – Jigsaw Wicklow.  A swap table will be available at the meeting, so bring along all those unloved fabrics, sewing notions, books/magazines etc.

 

Charity Quilt –  members are invited to remain after the meeting for an afternoon Sit, Sew & Design Session to assemble our Log Cabin Charity Quilt in aid of Jigsaw.

Bring your rotary cutter, cutting mat, rules, sewing machines. and extension leads (we might not get to sew on the day). Help to sort out blocks for design layout, trim blocks if necessary and design the Charity Quilt 2022.

“Zoom” Demonstration

The next Zoom demonstration will be held on Wednesday, 26th October 2022 at 7.30 p.m. on how to make a Cross Back Apron with Lisa Capen Quilts (YouTube). As well as the demonstration there will also be a discussion on making Cross Back Aprons.

Doors open at 10.00 a.m.

Our October meeting will be held on Saturday, 15th October 2022.  The Speaker for the meeting is Rosaleen Dwyer and her sister Kathryn Byrne.  We look forward to welcoming them both to the meeting.

There will be a Swap Table for our 2022 Charity Jigsaw at the meeting. So bring along all those unloved fabrics and sewing items you no longer need so they can find a new home!

And don’t forget to bring your Log Cabin Blocks for our 2022 Charity Quilt

 

Chenille Mug Holder

Following the meeting Wendy Huggins has kindly agreed to do an afternoon workshop on how to make Chenille fabric.  The workshop will be from 1.30 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. She will be teaching the techniques for making the fabric and also how to make a mug holder or pot holder.

Car Park Meeting/Exhibition

In September 2022 we are holding our third Car Park Exhibition/Meeting. So bring all the work you have been doing over the past while and display it on your car!

Terri McNeill

Terri McNeill Exhibition – In conjunction with the Car Park meeting, an exhibition of the work of our late and beloved member, Terri McNeill, will be held in the Community Hall.

Friends of Terri, together with her husband, Don, will provide a shop of Terri’s fabrics.

Members who attended Terri’s classes over the years are also asked to bring along the quilts they have made under her guidance for display at the Car Park Exhibition.

 

Saturday, 20th August 2022 – 11.00 a.m.
“Christmas in August”

As is traditional our August meeting will be a Sit & Sew Day on the theme of “Christmas in August” to get you started on all those Christmas projects/gifts. Enjoy a day of sewing and chatting!

There will be Christmas demonstrations and Appletree Crafts will also bring their Christmas fabrics to get everyone into the Christmas mood! https://www.appletreecrafts.com/

Saturday, 16th July 2022 – 11.00 a.m.
Doors open at 10.00 a.m.

We are delighted to welcome Lynn Naughton of Seams Sew Simple back to Wicklow.  Lynn will be our guest speaker for the meeting and she will also bring her shop with all her lovely fabrics!

There will  be a half day workshop provided by Lynn on the afternoon of 16th July 2022.  The workshop will cover a number of projects all based on 5″ Squares – “quilt as you go string” blocks, flying geese table runner, cathedral window table runner, curved pieced cushion cover.  For further information/details contact Workshop Organiser, Geraldine McGettigan workshops@wicklowpatchwork.ie

There will also be a “hanging sleeve” demonstration on the day so that our wall hangings and quilts all hang beautifully!

Dyeing Workshop 

A return of the popular two day Dyeing Workshop with Moira Byrne, Lorna Lafferty and Mary Piggott will be held on Saturday and Sunday, 9th & 10th July 2022. The workshop will cover a variety of dyeing methods.

Saturday, 18th June 2022 – 11.00 am.
Doors Open at 10.00 a.m.

John O’Donnell of Sewing Machine Centre Waterford, will be our speaker for the June meeting. John will also service sewing machines for members on the day. There will be a booking system set up to have your machine serviced.

Scissor Sharpening – The “Scissors Man” will also be at the meeting to sharpen your scissors/pinking shears etc. Please clearly label your scissors and put them in a labelled bag for sharpening.

Charity Swap Table – there will be a swap table in the hall for our charity Jigsaw. So bring those unloved fabrics etc. that you don’t think you will ever use but will be loved by somebody else!  Just make sure the items are in good condition and are usable. There will be a Charity Box on the table as a contribution to Jigsaw for the items you take.

We are very pleased that our Guest Speaker for the May meeting is Tomomi McElwee.  She is also bringing her shop to the meeting.

Sit & Sew Evening (Zoom)

While we are back meeting in person again, it is intended to continue the Sit & Sew/Demonstration sessions by Zoom on the 4th Wednesday of each month.  The next Zoom Sit & Sew will be held on Wednesday, 27th April 2022 at 7.30 p.m.  Join in and enjoy the chat as you work on your projects.

At last! Our first indoor face to face monthly meeting since the start of the pandemic will be held on Saturday, 9th  April 2022 in the Community Centre, Newtownmountkennedy at 11.00 a.m. (doors open from 10.00 a.m.)  We are delighted that the Speaker for the meeting is our neighbour, Appletree Crafts.  They will also be bringing their shop to the meeting to help us build up our stashes again!.  https://www.appletreecrafts.com/

 

Easter/Spring Challenge 2022
There will be a themed Easter/Spring Challenge at the meeting – so bring along your small Easter/Spring items and enter the Challenge!

 

Sit & Sew Afternoon – there will be an in person Sit & Sew Afternoon following the monthly meeting.  Come along with your  lunch, sewing machine, those projects you are working on and enjoy the chat!

Our first meeting of 2022 will be held on Saturday, 15th January 2022 at 11.00 a.m.  The meeting will be held by Zoom as we are still unable to hold our meetings in person due to the continued Covid pandemic.
