2023 Events/Activities
Saturday 9th December 2023 – 11.00 a.m.
(Doors open from 10.00 a.m.)
This meeting is about Christmas and is a popular meeting. Members will give demonstrations and ideas. There will be tea/coffee, non-alcoholic mulled wine and mince pies available. To add to the atmosphere, there will be a Kris Kindle. If you would like to bring along a gift to share (value max €10 or a homemade item) and then collect a gift at the end of the meeting.
Christmas fabric panels will be on sale for €5 each.
Bring along your projects for the usual Christmas Challenge which will take place and will be judged at the meeting.
There will be a charity swap table also, so please bring along any unwanted sewing/textile magazines and fabric/sewing notions.
Quilts due to be displayed at the Christmas Fair in Enniskerry on 2nd December will be returned to members at this meeting.
Saturday 2nd December 2023 in Enniskerry
Enniskerry Parish will be holding a Christmas Fair in St. Patrick’s Church, Powerscourt from 11 am to 6pm. There will be a display of members quilts on the day in the Church opposite the gates into Powerscourt House. We are asking our members to make a small item/s which can be sold at the fair. Items do not necessarily have to be on the Christmas theme. Sale proceeds will be donated to Charabanc. This charity has been nominated as the WPG charity for 2023. Another log cabin quilt, which was pieced by members, along with some other craft items will be raffled on the day with the proceeds also in aid of Charabanc.
There will also be an outdoor market & food stalls with a live crib from 4.30p.m.
Saturday 18th November 2023 – 11.00 a.m.

Tomomi McElwee of Slaney Quilting Studio https://slaneyquiltingstudio.com/ will bring along her fabric shop. Tomomi has a wide range of unusual fabrics. She will speak on the day about her upcoming stained glass workshop to be held in January – more information and bookings on the day or by email to: workshops@wickowpatchwork.ie

Members quilts to be displayed at the Christmas Fair on 2nd December in Enniskerry can be brought along to the meeting and will be returned at the December meeting. Also small items to be sold at the Fair, in aid of Charabanc, can be brought along. Tickets will be on sale for the Log Cabin quilt which will be raffled at the Christmas Fair in Enniskerry on the 2nd December.

Entries for the Halloween Challenge will be on view and will be judged.
John O’Donnell https://www.sewingmachines.ie/will be servicing/repairing sewing machines. Scissors/pinking shears can also be sharpened on the day – there is no need to book for this service. Remember to label your sewing machine with your name and contact mobile number and to put scissors in a zip lock bag which should also be labelled. The WPG nominated charity for 2022 was Jigsaw Wicklow https://jigsaw.ie/location/wicklow/ who provide services and support in the Wicklow region for youth mental health. Monies collected from various meetings and a quilt raffle have been donated to this charity. A representative from the charity will speak about the charity at the meeting.
There will be a silent auction on the day for 2 free standing embroidery hoops by making a written bid. The sale proceeds will go to this year’s charity, Charabanc.
In the afternoon WPG members Moira Byrne and Jennifer Cribben will give a workshop on Sashiko stitching. For further information and to book a place email: workshops@wickowpatchwork.ie.
There will be an opportunity for people to sit and sew in the afternoon. If you are waiting for your machine to be serviced, you could bring along some hand sewing or hand work of any kind.
Saturday 16th September 2023 – 11.00 a.m.
(Doors open from 10.00 a.m.)
This informal meeting will be held outdoors in the Community Hall carpark (with the hall booked should the weather not oblige). Bring along your quilts/projects and display them on stands, or prop them up on your car. Bring a picnic and a chair. Tea and coffee will be provided – please bring along your own mug. There will be an ice cream van on the day to add to the party atmosphere. It is a sociable meeting with the opportunity to chat and get to know other members.
Don McNeill will have his fabric and sewing notions on sale at very reasonable prices.
This beautiful log cabin quilt, which was pieced by members and quilted by Dorothy Seagrave, will be raffled during the get together. Raffle Tickets will be on sale with all proceeds in aid of this year’s charity – Charabanc.
There will be a Halloween Challenge which will be judged at the October meeting. Any project around the theme of Halloween can be entered.
Saturday 19th August 2023 – 11.00 a.m.

The theme for this meeting is Christmas in August with demos by six WPG members on the Christmas Theme for projects and patterns. Our guest demonstrator, Sarah Thornhill, will be selling her Christmas panels and will show how to use them. We suggest that if you have a Christmas item, which you have already made, that you might show it during the usual Show and Tell part of the meeting. It’s a very enjoyable and relaxing meeting and you’ll go home with ideas for your Christmas sewing.
As there is no Fabric Shop at the meeting, please bring along any unwanted fabric,notions, books etc for the swap table – donations will go towards Charabanc which is our charity for this year. Tickets will also be on sale for the quilt raffle which will be held in September in aid of this charity. This is a beautiful log cabin quilt pieced by our members and quilted by Dorothy Seagrave.
We have decided to hold a Halloween Challenge and details of this project will be available towards the end of the morning at the short meeting.

There will be no formal meeting this day. As it is the fifth Saturday in July, a workshop will be given by our member Helen Dodd on a simple sleeveless sun dress which can be adapted to a Winter pinafore. For details contact Geraldine McGettign at – workshops@wickowpatchwork.ie.

Pauline Kiernan a member of The Embroiderers Guild will be the speaker at meeting.
There will be no fabric shop so please bring along unwanted fabric, notions etc. for the charity table. Proceeds will go towards this year’s charity, Charabanc.
Following on from Moira Byrne’s introduction on fabric dyeing at our meeting on 17th June, Moira will give a hands on workshop on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th on the process of dyeing fabrics. The June meeting will be held on Saturday 17th June 2023. Our Chair, Moira Byrne, will be the speaker for the meeting and will give a talk on fabric dyeing in preparation for the proposed dyeing workshop on Saturday 15th July and all day Sunday 16th July. The shop will be The Crafty Fox. Sadly their shop is closing, however, they are delighted to come to WPG with fabrics and all things of interest to quilters.
There will be a Charity Table at the meeting for our current charity Charabanc. Please bring any unwanted books and/or magazines for the table. No fabrics please.

There will be a workshop in the afternoon with Susan Kay on how to make a table runner and techniques for other Patchwork projects with the pattern. This will be particularly suitable for beginners. Raffle Tickets will be on sale for this quilt made by WPG members in aid of the Irish Red Cross – Syria/Turkey appeal.

The May meeting will be held on Saturday, 20th May 2023. The guest speaker will be Gwen from Celtic Fusion Fabrics.
2023 Charity is Charabanc, Enniskerry and Barbara Davis will attend the meeting to speak on the charity’s activities.
RaffleTickets will be on sale at the May and June meetings for the quilt made by WPG members in aid of the Irish Red Cross – Syria/Turkey appeal.
There will be a workshop in the afternoon given by Eithne Carey on manipulating fabric creating ornaments/decorations.

Saturday 29th April 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Sit & Sew Day
There will be an all day Sit & Sew on Saturday 29th April. There will also be beginner/refresher demonstrations including: – quarter inch seams, use of rulers, mitred corners and mitred binding – these demonstrations will take place in the morning.
This is a good opportunity to work on all those UFO’s, exchange ideas and have a chat. Don’t forget to bring your lunch!

The April meeting will be held on Saturday, 15th April 2023. The meeting will be an informal one with plenty of demonstrations given by members. There will be no speaker or shop at the meeting, however, there will be a Charity Swap Shop in aid of our new 2023 Charity – Charabanc, Enniskerry.

The March meeting will be held on Saturday, 11th March 2023. The Speaker for the meeting is Moya Geraghty of Patchwork Plus in Cork. Moya is bringing her shop and will also be providing workshops over the weekend. Welcome back Moya!
St. Patrick’s Day Challenge – There will be a St. Patrick’s Day Challenge at the meeting. The Challenge is to make a patchwork/craft item inspired by St. Patrick’s Day. A winner will be voted on by members present at the meeting who will win a prize!

The AGM will be held on 18th February 2023.
There will be no speaker for the regular monthly meeting. However, immediately following the AGM there will be an opportunity for all to make a handmade Name Badge. So bring along some fabric/felt/etc. to make your name badge as well as some embroidery threads and embellishments for the badge!

Christmas Challenge Winner
Due to the bad weather in December, the Christmas Challenge was rerun at the January meeting and the winner was Betty O’Driscoll. Congratulations Betty!

Unfortunately Roisin McManus of Quilt Yarn Stitch is unable to attend the meeting as our Speaker/Shop/Workshop. However, member Jennifer Crebbin has kindly agreed to be the Speaker for the meeting and show us some of her amazing work.

There will be a Charity Table at the meeting for Jigsaw Wicklow our current Charity. Please bring any unwanted books and/or magazines for the table. No fabrics please.
Christmas Challenge Re-run
Due to limited number of members who were able to attend the Christmas meeting because of the bad weather, the Christmas Challenge is being re-run in January. Same rules apply – bringing a Christmas item(s) you have made without using either Red or Green fabric/materials. There will be a prize for the favourite item voted for by those present!
Sashiko Workshop – Moira Byrne will give an afternoon workshop on how to make a small piece of Sashiko embroidery. Kits are available. If you are interested in attending please contact the Workshop Organiser immediately at workshops@wicklowpatchwork.ie to reserve a place.
Sit & Sew Afternoon – you are also very welcome to come along and work on your own projects if you so wish.

A Sit & Sew morning will be held on Saturday, 14th January 2023 from 10.00 a.m. to complete the two Charity Quilts (Log Cabin) which are being made for our current Charity – Jigsaw Wicklow https://jigsaw.ie/location/wicklow/ If you can make the morning’s sewing, please bring your sewing machine and the usual supplies needed!

Our traditional Christmas Meeting/Party will be held on Saturday, 10th December 2022 with Kris Kindle, Christmas Demonstrations etc. And of course there will be mulled wine (non-alcoholic!), mince pies and other Christmas goodies. We are looking for volunteers to demonstrate interesting and unusual Christmas items. If you have a Christmas item you would like to demonstrate, please let one of the Committee members know.
For the Kris Kindle, the absolute maximum amount is €10.
Christmas Challenge – this year’s Christmas Challenge is to make a Christmas item without using either Red or Green fabric/materials. Prizes will be awarded! Bring along your items for display at the meeting!

“Zoom” Demonstration
As an experiment and to facilitate more members, we will be having the monthly demonstrations on Mondays instead of Wednesdays.
The November Zoom demonstration will be held on Monday, 28th November 2022 at 7.30 p.m. Mairead Hutchison will demonstrate how to make Lynn Naughton’s “Table Runner”. Lynn is the owner of the fabric shop Seams Sew Simple.

The Speaker for the meeting is Eithne Carey, Chair of the Irish Guild of Embroiders. The title of her talk is “Enriching Stitching”. Eithne is a stitcher of mixed background including costume making, design and everything stitching. We look forward to welcoming her to our meeting.

Charity Swap Table for our 2022 Charity – Jigsaw Wicklow. A swap table will be available at the meeting, so bring along all those unloved fabrics, sewing notions, books/magazines etc.
Charity Quilt – members are invited to remain after the meeting for an afternoon Sit, Sew & Design Session to assemble our Log Cabin Charity Quilt in aid of Jigsaw.
Bring your rotary cutter, cutting mat, rules, sewing machines. and extension leads (we might not get to sew on the day). Help to sort out blocks for design layout, trim blocks if necessary and design the Charity Quilt 2022.
