As is traditional, there will be no formal meeting in December 2019 but there will be plenty of fun, mince pies and other Christmas goodies to enjoy and of course a Kris Kindle – maximum value €5 but do bring hand made gifts if at all possible!
There will be Christmas demonstrations on how to make Christmas gifts and ornaments. There will also be an exhibition of Christmas craft work and members will vote for their favourite. The winning entry will receive a prize!
A charity swop shop will be held on the day so do bring along all those “unloved” fabrics and other sewing related items.
Sit & Sew Afternoon – the hall has been booked for the afternoon. So stay behind after the party and tackle some of those UFO’s or other projects you have on hand! If you are staying, don’t forget to bring your lunch – plenty of tea/coffee and biscuits will be available.
Our 2018 Charity – Wicklow Hospice Foundation
We were delighted to present our cheque for €2,200 to Sinead from the Wicklow Hospice Foundation at our meeting in May 2019. Wicklow Hospice Foundation was our charity for 2018. Thank you to everyone who so generously contributed to our charity events throughout 2018.

Those of you who went to the Knitting and Stitching Show will have found some great bargains and as we have no speaker for the meeting, perhaps you would bring along some of those bargains and show us how clever you were at shopping!
Joe of Floppy Fabrics is bringing her shop to the meeting so we hope you didn’t spend all your money at the Knitting & Stitching Show!
There will be a raffle for the two sewing workboxes donated by John O’Donnell, Sewing Machines Ireland (Waterford) in aid of our Charity – Lakers.

Our biennial Quilt Exhibition will be held in St. Matthew’s Church of Ireland Church, Newtownmountkennedy on 27th, 28th and 29th September 2019.

The theme of the exhibition is “Harvest”. The Exhibition will showcase the work of our members from large quilts to small quilted items.
Members may submit quilts, or quilt/craft related items, at the meetings on 14th and 21st September 2019. All quilts must have a hanging sleeve. Christmas in August Sewing Day – as is traditional, a sewing morning will be held instead of the usual monthly meeting. This year we are doing a Christmas themed sewing day. There will also be a Christmas Fabric, patchwork fabric and craft/quilt magazine Charity Swop Shop on the day – so bring along all that unused/unloved Christmas and other Fabrics in your stash! There will also be demonstrations of Christmas themed items to give you plenty of ideas for making gifts and also decorating your home. There will also be a Sit & Sew Afternoon – so stay to work on your Christmas or other projects for the afternoon. And don’t forget to bring your lunch! Tea/Coffee an biscuits will be provided. The charge for the afternoon is €5.00.

The speakers for the meeting are Lorna Lafferty and Moira Byrne on the topic of Printed Textiles. Wendy Huggins of Fabric Matters will be bringing her shop to the meeting.
“Hand Dyeing & Printing Fabrics” Workshop
20th/22nd July 2019 (two and a half days)
After a successful workshop with members in Summer 2018, Moira Byrne and Lorna Lafferty are back to do another workshop with WPG members. The workshop is for members to create hand dyed fabrics and print designs to the fabrics that you have dyed over 1.5 days. A number of techniques will be demonstrated and everyone will be given an opportunity to try out these during the workshop. The workshop is suitable for all levels.

The blocks are now ready to be put together, however, we are still 36 blocks short so it would be much appreciated if more blocks can be brought to the meeting!

We look forward to welcoming back Mary Palmer. She will be our speaker for the June meeting and will also be doing a day and a half workshop. The theme of the workshop is a Kaleidoscope Quilt with another easier alternative using a jelly roll – called Stella.
